Objective Area Solutions Adds Nationally Recognized Aviation Leader Amr ElSawy to Board of Advisors
With the nation's aviation infrastructure facing unprecedented demands from both civil modernization and emerging defense missions, OAS strengthens its advisory bench with a leader who has spent a career building the systems the country depends on.
TYSONS CORNER, VA — The nation's aviation infrastructure is at an inflection point. Civil airspace modernization, evolving defense requirements, and an expanding homeland security mission are converging in ways that demand new thinking, and new leadership. Today Objective Area Solutions, LLC (OAS), which operates at this very intersection, announced today that Amr ElSawy, one of the most accomplished aviation and aerospace technology leaders in the country, has joined the company's Board of Advisors.
For more than a decade, OAS has supported the Federal Aviation Administration, the Department of War, and the Department of Homeland Security to ensure America's skies are safe, open, and secure. "We started OAS because we saw a gap between the people building civil aviation systems and the people building defense and security systems. In reality, they're protecting the same airspace and serving the same nation," said J.J. Stakem, CEO and Founder of OAS. "Amr ElSawy has spent his entire career at the center of that challenge. There are very few people in this industry who understand both the technical depth and the strategic breadth of what we're trying to do. Amr is one of them, and we're honored to have him on our team."
Mr. ElSawy is a recognized aviation expert with deep domestic and international experience who has spent more than three decades leading efforts to modernize global aviation systems and integrate emerging aerospace technologies. He has driven digital transformation across complex public-sector missions spanning civil, defense, intelligence, law enforcement, and homeland security, the same mission space where OAS operates every day.
He currently serves as President and CEO of ElSawy Enterprises, LLC, chairs the Board of Directors at Draper—a research, development and nonprofit engineering innovation organization developing advanced solutions for National Security—and serves as a strategic advisor to BTI360. He is also partnering with private equity firms to evaluate potential portfolio companies. From 2007 to 2022, he served as President, CEO, and Board Member of Noblis, where he guided the organization through a period of extraordinary growth and transformation that included six mergers and acquisitions and earned multiple workplace, ethics, and leadership recognitions. Prior to Noblis, Mr. ElSawy served as a Senior Vice President at MITRE and spent seven years as Director of the FAA's Federally Funded Researchand Development Center (FFRDC), one of the most consequential roles in American aviation, where he led the technical research and systems engineering that underpin the safety and efficiency of the National Airspace System. His leadership has been honored with Washingtonian's Tech Titan designation and multiple Wash100 awards. Mr. ElSawy holds an MBA from Georgetown University and engineering degrees from The George Washington University and West Virginia University.
"The challenges facing our aviation infrastructure today are unlike anything we've seen before, unmanned systems, advanced air mobility, evolving threat environments, and aging legacy systems all competing for attention and resources," said Mr. ElSawy. "What drew me to OAS isthat they don't see civil aviation and defense aviation as separate problems. They see one national airspace that must be modernized, protected, and sustained for every mission it serves. That perspective is exactly right, and I'm excited to help this team build on it."
The addition of Mr. ElSawy to the OAS Board of Advisors is the latest step in the company's deliberate strategy to assemble senior leaders whose experience spans the full spectrum of aviation and national security missions. As OAS continues to grow its support to the FAA, the Department of War,and the Department of Homeland Security, the company remains focused on its founding mission, ensuring that the aviation infrastructure the nation depends on is ready for the challenges ahead.
