Experience

Our consultants have extensive and diverse experience including work in the US civil service, military, intelligence, private, and international sectors.  Objective Area Solutions, LLC is capable of supporting projects across a variety of government functions, but has particular focus on public sector initiatives with an international component and/or which operate in an expeditionary environment. Objective Area Solutions is a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business.

TEAM

J.J. Stakem is CEO and President of Objective Area Solutions with accountability for all aspects of the company’s activities and strategy.  J.J. leverages a diverse background in government and private sector positions in aviation, banking, and consulting to drive company activities and engagement.  He is a strategic planner with a focus on human-centered approaches to drive performance in highly technical fields in the aviation, defense, and international development fields.  J.J. has worked across a wide variety of domestic and international teams.  His work abroad has focused on the Middle East, North Africa, and South Asia.

J.J. Stakem has nearly 20 years of technical and consulting experience in aviation, defense, international development, and finance fields.  He serves as the President of George Mason University’s Schar School of Policy and Government Alumni Board holds a Master of Science in Organization Development and Knowledge Management from George Mason University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Virginia.  He is a licensed commercial pilot and flight instructor in fixed-wing and helicopter aircraft.  In his spare time, he enjoys recreational flying at the Leesburg Airport and spending time with his wife and two children.

Chief Operations Officer for Objective Area Solutions, Tom Draffen provides a strategic role in shaping the company’s activities.  Tom leverages his extensive technical and leadership experience to provide oversight of company processes, technology solutions, and employee performance.  He is a seasoned consultant with experience in complex government and private sector organizations.

Tom has widespread experience abroad and is proficient at managing international and cross-cultural teams. He has an undergraduate degree in IT Management, has completed the accredited coach training program at George Mason University and has a graduate degree in Organizational Leadership. He was the Founding Director of the Kings Connection non-profit that serves parent, teacher, and staff engagement at Kofa High School in Yuma, Arizona and is currently a trustee for the Growth Edge Network, a non-profit dedicated the research and practitioner community in adult development. Tom and his wife split their time between Virginia and New York where they are opening a bed and breakfast.

Tony is a Senior Consultant at OAS and most recently served as the Vice President of Operations at Advanced Aviation Solutions, where he focused on delivering a full array of services associated with all facets of air traffic management, airspace management, and aeronautical information, as well as business strategies, policies and plans associated with the implementation and integration of new technologies.

Tony previously served as the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) Executive Director of the Air Traffic Safety Oversight Service (AOV) from 2006 – 2017.  Tony established the internationally recognized regulatory oversight program for air navigation services provided by the Federal Aviation Administration worldwide. Tony also served as the Manager of the FAA’s Air Traffic Investigations Division, the Manager of Terminal and Flight Service Operations and Procedures and has served the FAA in a variety of other air traffic control related positions over his 35-year career.  He also served as an Air Traffic Control Specialist in the USAF.

Tony attended Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, majoring in Professional Aeronautics.  He is also a graduate of Federal Executive Institute, Leadership for a Democratic Society, and a Graduate of the University of Southern California’s Safety Management Course as well as numerous other leadership courses with both the USAF and the FAA. Tony lives in Northern Virginia with his family.

Brian Konie isa Senior Consultant for Objective Area Solutions with extensive experience in leadership, organization development, program management, and process improvement with an emphasis on air traffic, airspace management, and exercise design. A retired U.S.Army Infantry officer with over 25 years of commissioned service, Eric has served in command and executive leadership positions at the direct, operational, and strategic levels. This wide range of full-spectrum experiences has honed him into an accomplished executive leader,chief of staff, and operations manager with a proven ability to lead, train,and inspire teams for the complex challenges of 21st century landscape. Eric is also a certified Executive Coach and has experience as a professional educator assessing, selecting, training,and developing military and executive leaders.

Denise Severino is the Office Manager for Objective Area Solutions.  Denise has a diverse business background.  As the spouse of a US Naval Officer, she has moved 12 times across 3 continents.  As a result of the these moves, Denise was a Mutual Fund Accountant in Hamilton, Bermuda, Senior Financial Analyst in Monterey, CA, Financial Controller in Hagatna, Guam, Human Resources Manager in San Diego, CA, Theater Stage Manager in Mons, Belgium and the US Embassy Community Liaison Officer in Tokyo, Japan.

Ryan Curry is a Senior Consultant and retired Marine Corps helicopter test pilot with over 24 years of military service. He started his service as an enlisted Marine and earned an appointment to the U. S. Naval Academy through which he was commissioned. Ryan is an Alum of the U. S. Naval Test Pilot School with flight time in over 20 aircraft and helicopters with extensive flight leadership experience with multiple operational deployments. He had the honor of being one of the first pilots to fly the new CH-53K King Stallion helicopter during the initial test flights. As a leadership consultant, coach, and instructor at the U. S. Naval Academy’s Stockdale Center for Ethical leadership he helped teams of all kinds improve communication, agility, diversity, inclusion, and positive culture, so they are more effective in reaching their goals. Mr. Hart was the Managing Director of Vanquest Investments, an emerging markets asset management and investment advisory firm specializing in Eastern European markets, including Bulgaria, Romania and Ukraine. Dr. Nadine Alameh serves as OGC’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), and is responsible for creating and integrating the strategic direction and business plans of the Consortium in partnership with the OGC Board, members and staff.

Dr. Alameh is a seasoned technical and business professional with a contagious passion for interoperable information exchange, technology & process innovation, and working with diverse motivated teams! Dr. Alameh is no stranger to OGC. From 2009 to 2014, she was Director, then Executive Director of OGC’s Interoperability Program, leading initiatives in various domains including earth observation, aviation, public safety and defense.

Prior to rejoining OGC in 2019, Dr. Alameh was Northrop Grumman’s Chief Architect for Innovation Strategy - Civil Solutions Division. And before that, she ran a couple of small businesses: an international business delivering information management solutions in the Aviation sector; and a consulting business focusing on addressing geospatial interoperability issues for the US federal government.

Dr. Alameh is a graduate of MIT with a PhD in Computer and Information Systems Engineering, a Masters in Civil and Environmental Engineering, and a Masters in City Planning – all with specialization in Geographic Information Systems (GIS).

Neil Planzer has a long and successful career providing solutions in air traffic management and aviation. For 14 years, he served as the vice president of Aviation Infrastructure and ATM for the Boeing Company, leading a successful and profitable business unit, designing and implementing the company’s ATM pursuits. As a member of the Senior Executive Service in the U.S. Air Force Neil served simultaneously in two significant positions: Executive Director, DoD Policy Board on Federal Aviation and Director, Civil Aviation. Neil was a key adviser to the U.S. Secretary of Defense and the National Security Council after the September 11th attacks. Neil had a 25 year career at the Federal Aviation Administration including serving as the Director of the Office of Air Traffic Program Management and Air Traffic Systems Requirements Service.

Neil has developed processes, procedures and airspace solutions with Air Navigation Service Providers and their regulatory agencies across the globe. His solutions helped members of the European Union and Eurocontrol,  EASA, China, Indonesia, Canada, Russia and Bermuda.

In 2010, Neil received the Air Traffic Control Association’s (ATCA) Glen A. Gilbert Memorial Award. Among the most prestigious awards in aviation, the award recognizes the outstanding, long-term achievement of an individual in the field of aviation.

Neil serves on the European Institute’s Board of Directors, Chairmen Emeritus on the ATCA Board of Directors, and served for 7 years on the Civil Air Navigation Services Organization (CANSO) Executive Committee. Neil was appointed by the Secretary of Defense and served 3 years on the FAA Management Advisory Committee. Neil also served in the U.S. Air Force. Neil and his wife Andrea are active pilots and have operated their own aircraft for 30 years.
